Empowering newcomers: Building Bridges, Fostering Inclusion, and Strengthening Communities Together

Welcome to Canada and Welcome to Newcomer Women’s Services Toronto (NEW)

The Building Community Connections (BCC) Program brings newcomers and long-time Canadian residents together to foster intercultural awareness, volunteerism, and social and civic engagement. Through our BCC program, newcomers are offered a safe, welcoming space to build relationships, share experiences, and feel supported as they integrate into the Canadian community.

OUR SERVICES

Our Building Community Connection Program is the main hub for weekly workshops that inspire, empower, and connect. Each session is packed with interactive activities, led by our experienced team and /or guest speakers from diverse industries, all designed to meet your needs and spark new opportunities focusing on two main streams: Information & Orientation (I&O) and Community Connections (CC).

  • Interactive sessions designed to equip newcomers with the tools and knowledge to navigate daily life with confidence, supporting them to make informed decisions throughout their settlement journey.

    Topics include but not limited to:

    • Employment & Job Search (resumes, interviews, career pathways)

    • Housing & Tenant Rights (finding housing, leases, disputes)

    • Healthcare & Dental Services (access, insurance, mental health)

    • Education & Skills Development (schools, language, upgrading)

    • Financial Literacy (banking, budgeting, taxes, benefits)

    • Legal & Settlement Services (laws, immigration, available supports)

    • Everyday Life Skills (public transit, technology)

  • The Community Connections stream helps newcomers build meaningful relationships, expand their networks, and feel at home in their new community. Through interactive sessions, you’ll connect with peers, mentors, and local organizations while learning about Canadian culture, services, and opportunities. Our workshops are designed to boost your confidence, strengthen your sense of belonging, and open doors to personal and professional growth.

    Topics include but not limited to:

    1. Agency Information Sessions: Learn about services, programs, and resources available in your community.

    2. Meet a Community Member Series: Hear inspiring stories from Canadians and share experiences in an informal setting.

    3. Networking & Mentoring Sessions: Build social and professional connections, get guidance from mentors, and develop your support system.

    4. Mentoring Sessions: Receive personalized advice from experts in short, focused sessions.

    5. Free Community Events: Attend cultural events, celebrations, and fun gatherings to meet new friends and feel part of the community.

    6. Volunteer & Civic Engagement Opportunities: Learn how to give back, join committees, and participate in local initiatives.

    These sessions are dynamic, weekly, and led by subject-matter experts, giving you real-world knowledge and hands-on experience.
