NEW’s Employment Program is funded by Employment Ontario.

The employment team is dedicated to the provision of employment-related services at a one-stop shop. This program provides assistance to newcomer women on how to enter the labour market in regulated professions; information on licensing procedures; information on Canadian workplace culture; labour market standards; career–specific requirements; skills upgrading training and community-employment assistance.

Newcomer women are supported through job readiness assessments, skills training workshops and job searchers to find meaningful work. In addition, newcomer women are informed about volunteer placements and positions as an opportunity to gain Canadian work experience.

NEW’s Employment Services include:

Employment Counseling – We invite you to attend an Information Session at NEW followed by an appointment with our Employment Team, in order to assess your employment needs. The objective of this process is for you to learn more about the support and services that are available to you at NEW and for us to assist you in making an informed career decision.

Job Search Workshops - The workshops are designed to provide clients with the necessary tools to gain employment through effective resume writing, interview and networking skills as well as identify potential employers. We also offer workplace communication skills training and training in cash register skills.

Second Career Information/Assistance – This is a government funded program for employees who have been laid off and are seeking re-training.

Engineering your Future/Job Lead Development – Clients can access a Job Coach at NEW who can connect them with employers in order to maximize their employment opportunities.

Volunteering and Mentorship Opportunities – Assistance is provided to clients to find suitable mentors to assist clients with the development of their career goals.

Use of  NEW’s Resources to find a Job: NEW provides free access to computers,  the internet, photocopiers, a fax machine, voicemail, telephones, employment resources and a job board.

Client testimonial:

“Being new to Canada, I was a very shy woman. I challenged myself and joined the program at Newcomer Women’s Services Toronto where I met with the right facilitators and staff.

I was always given a chance to express myself. I am proud to have followed the course and would strongly recommend and encourage other newcomers to join the program and enrich their knowledge. Newcomer Women’s Services will always be a second home for me deep in my heart.

Last but not least I would like to say a special thank you to all the staff of Newcomer Women’s Services Toronto for their support and help. They are always smiling, cheerful, nice, welcoming, helpful, informative and considerate. The door as usual is always and will always be opened for us newcomers. Please make the most of it. I wish all the staff of Newcomer Women Services Toronto good luck in their future endeavours and hope that their goals are met.”
